CAPE ELIZABETH — A 14-year-old Cape Elizabeth boy has been
charged with gross sexual assault on a young girl officials will describe only
as "a female under the age of 12."
Cape Elizabeth Police Chief Neil Williams said
last week that the boy, who was summonsed on Dec. 6, has since been released
from juvenile detention into the custody of his father. Although Williams
confirmed the boy is a Cape resident, he declined to say if the girl also lives
in Cape, or what relationship there may have been, if any, between her and her
alleged assailant.
"I'm not at liberty to say," said
Williams, adding that the the boy and girl are not currently in contact.
"They are separated. We're satisfied with
the conditions of release," said Williams.
The case is still under investigation and
Williams said it is not known at this time if the sexual assault was an
isolated incident or something that played out over time.
"We just don't know how many offenses
there were," said Williams.
The boy is expected to appear in court next
month.
