conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week, the Scarborough Fire Department
will hold an open house from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Black Point
Fire Station, at 341 Black Point Road, offering station and apparatus tours,
equipment demonstrations, educational materials and refreshments. Members of
the department’s truck committee also will be on hand to answer questions about
the $900,000 bond referendum on the Nov. 6 ballot to buy a new ladder truck.

Transfer transfer
Allen’s Transfer and Storage has
leased a 5,000-square-foot warehouse at 117 Pleasant Hill Road in Scarborough.
An agent for Mayflower Transit in business in since 1974, the company is
relocating from its facility at 3 Karen Drive in Westbrook, where it’s been
since 1999. Allen’s also has locations in Bangor and Augusta.
Safety promotions
Bruce Quint of the Scarborough
Fire and Rescue Department has been promoted to paramedic lieutenant effective
Oct. 21, while Lt. Nate Contereas moves to cover a new shift. Meanwhile,
Scarborough police Sgt. Steve Thibodeau will supervise the public safety
dispatch center in a newly created utility sergeant position. Sgt. John
O’Malley, who currently manages the dispatch center, has taken a new role
leading a team of officers in special enforcement details dictated by crime
analysis reporting.
