Q: Why do you want to represent your district in the state Legislature?
A: I like
working with people and helping people. I think now is the time more than
ever for those in Augusta to work together, not for the good of their
parties, but for the good of all the residents of Maine. I know a lot of people
in South Portland and they know me. I have spent years working in and talking to
the residents of South Portland. I believe I can truly represent them well in
Augusta. I have a history of getting people to work together, approaching
things with an open mind and a willingness to work. I want to go to Augusta to
get all parts of the government to work together to benefit the citizens of
South Portland as well and the citizens of Maine. I hope to earn your
support and ask for your vote.
Q: What do you think are the three most important
issues facing Maine? (Of these, please identify at least one issue that is
specific to your district.)
A: 1. Tax
relief for middle class families. 2. Tax relief for Small Businesses that
create jobs here in Maine. 3. Seeing to it that all children get a
quality education.
Q: As a legislator, what would
you do, specifically, to address these concerns?
A: 1.
Represent the citizens of South Portland in all ways possible to
keep spending under control and to hold government workers accountable on
spending. By controlling spending we control the misuse and waste of our money
and bring taxes down. 2. Get all aspects of the government to work together and
to make things easier for small businesses to do business and prosper in Maine.
3. Ensure that our schools are provided with the resources that will allow
students to succeed and thrive in a better future.
Q: Do you support same-sex marriage? Why, or why
not?
A: This is a referendum item and I will vote on it on Election Day. It is
then that I will read it fully and make up my mind and vote.
After Election Day, as your representative, I will contact City
Hall to see how the residents of South Portland have voted. That is how I
will represent South Portland on this item.

Q: Why do you want to represent your district in the state Legislature?
A: I have enjoyed serving South Portland in
the legislature for the past three terms. The most important part of the
job is constituent service and helping the people you represent. This has
been a rewarding experience for me and I have met many great people along the
way. In addition, there are many significant issues facing our community
and state that I would like to continue to work on and find solutions.
Q: What do you think are the three most important
issues facing Maine? (Of these, please identify at least one issue that is
specific to your district.)
A: 1. Jobs and economic growth.
2. Promoting higher education and our local public schools.
3. Preserving Maine's environment and unique sense of place. I think
working to support local schools and getting our fair share of education
funding is essential for our kids and the effects it has on our local budgets
and taxes.
Q: As a legislator, what would
you do, specifically, to address these concerns?
A: My voting record and work in the House
reflects the above priorities. I believe a large part of growing our economy is
investing in education to train people for the better-paying jobs of
tomorrow. Working to help small business to succeed is also critical for
our local economy where so many people either run or are employed by a small
business.”
Q: Do you support same-sex marriage? Why, or why
not?
A: Yes. I just
believe in basic fairness for all people and equal rights under the law.
