PARIS
— There are lot of reasons to be wary in these trying times, but empty pockets
is no reason for anyone to live in fear.
That’s
why the Paris Fire Department is offering free installation of fire alarms to
needy families in towns.
“They
come with the batteries and everything,” Paris Fire Chief Brad Frost announced
at Monday’s selectboard meeting. “I want
to make them available to needy families, especially if they have kids. We’ll go out and install them.”
“You’re
even volunteering your time to install them?” asked selectboard Chairman Ray
Glover.
“Yes,
sir,” said Frost. “If we can save a
house, or save a life it’s well worth it.”
The
fire alarms, 80 in all, were provided by the Child Health Center, in Norway,
which received them through a Lowe’s home safety grant.
Any
Paris resident interested in obtaining a free fire alarm should contact Frost
at the Paris Fire Station by calling 743-6832.
Frost, or one of his deputies will deliver the alarm, and hang it in an
appropriate place to best serve the home, or apartment, in need.
Frost
did mention that the alarms are not available to landlords, who, by law, are
bound to equip their rental properties with smoke detectors.
