Gas fire nets injury in Cape Elizabeth

A controlled burn in Cape Elizabeth got out of hand on the morning of Aug. 22 when one man poured gasoline on the fire.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Jay Moores, 42, of Saco, was helping a friend burn a brush pile at that person’s home when he “emptied the contents of an old automobile's gas tank onto the fire.”

The resulting explosion took place on Harvest Lane, a private road off Valley Road.
Moores was transported to Maine Medical Center where he was being treated for first- and second-degree burns, said McCausland.
