Crime mapping available in South Portland

SOUTH PORTLAND — The South Portland Police Department announced last week that it has partnered with Bair Analytics to offer “RAIDS Online”, a free online crime mapping solution intended to connect law enforcement with the community in order to reduce crime and improve
public safety by enhancing community awareness, communication and partnerships.

RAIDS Online provides a map that depicts most crime reports, similar to an old-fashioned “pin map,” and allows residents to visualize crime in the city or their particular neighborhood. It will provide on the date, time, crime type, general location, and case number related to the incident.

Police officials hope this will allow residents, visitors and business owners to be better informed about criminal activity and trends, so they can make the most informed decisions about their safety and the safety and protection of their property.

RAIDS Online will also allow users to subscribe to daily, weekly or monthly email neighborhood watch reports, allowing residents to stay automatically informed of recent crime activity in their area of concern.  It also allows the public the ability to submit anonymous tips to the department on any crime report.

The service can be accessed at www.raidsonline.com or www.southportland.org/pd.

A free mobile app is also available and is compatible with iPhone, iPad Touch, or iPad.
Users should search for “RAIDS Online Mobile” at the App Store. An Android app is planned soon.
