Local businesses honored

Scarborough Economic Development Corp. names 'outstanding' honorees in advance of annual meeting

SCARBOROUGH — In advance of its 27^th annual meeting Oct. 9, the Scarborough Economic Development Corp. has announced its list of “Outstanding Businesses” for 2012.

“At our annual meeting, we will recognize six businesses and organizations that are making Scarborough a better place to live and work,” said Stuart Axelrod, chairman of SEDCO’s board of directors.

The honorees will include: James A. McBrady, Inc. as “outstanding legacy business,” Mainely Wraps as “outstanding new business,” Katahdin Analytical Services as “outstanding technology business,” Nonesuch Oysters as “outstanding micro-business” and the Scarborough Community Chamber for “outstanding contribution to the community.” Also, Partners for World Health with receive the “outstanding nonprofit” award.

Described as “a celebration of business in Scarborough,” the gala event will feature keynote speaker Michael Dubyak, president and CEO of Wright Express Corp. Dubyak also is chairman of Educate Maine, a business-led organization dedicated to improving college and career readiness.

“The board chose Mr. Dubyak as the keynote speaker because of his work bringing Maine educational institutions and businesses together,” said SEDCO President Harvey Rosenfeld. “This year, the Maine Development Foundation named him the  ‘2012 Champion of Education.’”

The annual meeting will take place from 5-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the Black Point Inn. Event sponsors include Biddeford Savings, Gawron Turgeon Architects, People's United Bank, Pine Tree Waste, Piper Shores, Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution, TD Bank, Enterprise Business Park, Gorham Savings Bank, The Egg & I, and James and Kathy Wellehan.
