Bat attack leads to charges

SCARBOROUGH — A Scarborough man was arrested May 31 at his parent’s Elbridge Oliver Way home on a charge of aggravated criminal mischief.

Police say Dylan S. Volk, 20, took a baseball bat to the vehicle of a 59-year-old Scarborough woman who confronted him for being cruel to animals. Volk is the son of Republican state Rep. Amy Volk of Scarborough.

According to Det. Rick Rouse of the Scarborough Police Department, the woman spotted Dylan Volk walking three dogs. She confronted Volk then followed him to the home on Elbridge Oliver Way after becoming concerned about how he was handling the dogs, Rouse said.

According to the police report, Volk came out of the house with a baseball bat. He used the bat to hit the driver’s side mirror on the woman’s car and dent the driver’s side door.

Volk was arrested and taken to the Cumberland County Jail, where he posted $500 cash bail. His first appearance at the Cumberland County Unified Court in Portland is scheduled for July 25.

"Our nearly 21-year-old son is developmentally disabled," said Volk, via email Tuesday. "This was a regrettable incident which we are trying to deal with constructively as a family."
