Gorham man arrested for Hannaford robberies

WATERBORO — A 23-year-old Gorham man was arrested and charged with robbing the Hannaford Bros. supermarket in Waterboro on Tuesday, Jan. 3, and authorities are confident he's the same man who robbed other stores in Gorham, Scarborough and Portland during the last two months, according to Mathew Baker, chief deputy sheriff for the York County Sheriff's Office.

Christopher Dimastrantonio is now being held at the York County Jail in Alfred on a $250,000 cash bond. Baker said Dimastrantonio entered the Hannaford, located at 20 Sokokis Trail, at about 5:45 p.m. He was wearing a mask and a Carharrt jacket. He told store staff that he had a gun and directed the employees behind the service desk "to give them all the money immediately or they would be shot."

Baker said the employees complied and Dimastrantonio fled the Hannaford store with more than $1,100 in cash. With the assistance of witnesses, sheriff's deputies were able to initiate a motor vehicle stop with the suspect on Route 202 in Hollis, Baker said.

He said when deputies searched Dimastrantonio's vehicle they found evidence connecting him directly to the Waterboro robbery. In coordination with detectives from the Gorham Police Department, the sheriff's office was also able to link Dimastrantonio to several similar robberies in Gorham, Scarborough and Portland, Baker said.

In addition to being charged with robbery for the Waterboro incident, Dimastrantonio has also been charged with violating conditions of release. Dimastrantonio's name is listed in the South Portland police log for Tuesday, Dec. 27, after being summonsed for burglary.
