Neighbors’ tip lead to drug bust

Scarborough police are crediting “a group of alert neighbors” for information leading to the arrest of New York drug dealer following a raid last week.

Using information on alleged suspicious activity at a single-family residence at 129 Sawyer Road, a search warrant was obtained and members of the Southern Maine Regional SWAT Team closed in to secure the home at about 7:30 p.m. Aug. 10.

Officers from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency then searched the property with the aid of K-9 drug-sniffing dogs from both the Scarborough and Portland police departments. Found on site were undisclosed amounts of heroin and crack cocaine, as well as “drug paraphernalia, ammunition and a bullet proof vest,” according to a press release from the Scarborough police.

Rahman K. Williams, 29, of Brooklyn, N. Y., a tenant at the home, was arrested and charged with trafficking scheduled drugs and possession of crack cocaine.  According to the release, written by Sgt. John O’Malley, “further charges may be pending as the investigation is continuing.”

Williams is being held at Cumberland County Jail on $1,000 cash bail.  He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
